Tuileries Garden: Free Entry, What to See and Hours

Between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries is a place to pause among ponds, sculptures and tree-lined paths. You do not need a ticket for the garden.

Tuileries Garden at a glance

The Jardin des Tuileries is an outdoor public garden managed by the Louvre. It is not the same as entering the Louvre Museum; you can enjoy the garden without visiting any museum.

What is there to see?

Broad paths, planted beds, statues and large basins give the garden its formal character. The open central spaces are good for seeing the line between the Louvre and Concorde; shaded paths and chairs offer places to take a break. The fountains, flowers and temporary installations can change with the season.

At the western edge sits the Musée de l'Orangerie, a separate ticketed museum containing Monet's Water Lilies. You do not need its ticket to enjoy the garden outside.

A little garden history

The site takes its name from tile-making workshops that once stood here. Catherine de' Medici had a palace and garden created in the sixteenth century. André Le Nôtre later reshaped the gardens in the seventeenth century, leaving the strong formal axis that still organises the space. The palace no longer stands, but the garden remains a central Paris landmark.

Free entry and optional activities

Admission to the garden is free. There is no Tuileries entrance ticket to buy. The Louvre's official garden page and hours page are the right sources for current opening arrangements. Paid museum visits, guided tours and other nearby experiences are separate choices, not requirements for entering the grounds.

Planning your visit

The Louvre publishes seasonal garden hours. At the September 2026 review, it listed 7:00–21:00 for April, May, September and October; 7:30–19:30 for January, February, March, November and December; and 7:00–23:00 for June, July and August. Visitors are asked to leave 30 minutes before closing. Check the official hours page before setting out because events and maintenance may affect access.

Paths and public toilets are available within the garden; the Louvre lists accessible toilets near the Place de la Concorde and Rue de Rivoli entrances. In warm weather, bring water and use shaded paths when needed. Stay on open paths and follow posted signs where garden areas are being cared for.
