Pantheon Student and Senior Ticket Information

The short version for 2026: the ordinary reduced Pantheon ticket (€2 instead of €7) is based on age and EU citizenship — 18 to 25 years old — not on being a student. There is no senior discount at all.
There are, however, statutory exemptions that many guides ignore: students enrolled in certain architecture, archaeology, art-history, cultural-heritage, education and fine-arts courses can enter free with current enrolment documentation, and the youth concession can also apply to citizens of non-EU countries where a reciprocity agreement exists. Below is what each category actually pays and what documentation is checked at the door.
Student ticket rules
- EU citizen aged 18–25: €2 reduced, passport or national identity card at the door
- Under 18 (any nationality): free with photo identification
- Aged 26+: normally the full €7, unless a statutory exemption applies (see below)
The ordinary €2 category is defined by age and citizenship, not by enrolment. A student card does not create eligibility for it, and being 26 or older does not automatically remove every route to a free or reduced ticket.
Non-EU students and reciprocity
As a general rule, visitors aged 18–25 who are not EU citizens pay the full €7. The exception is reciprocity: the concession can be extended to citizens of non-EU states that grant equivalent treatment to Italian citizens. Whether your nationality is covered can change, so check the Ministry's current concession list rather than relying on a blanket "all non-EU visitors pay full price".
Older guidebooks are unreliable here for a different reason too: they were written when the Pantheon was free for everyone, before the paid ticket was introduced.

The Ministry of Culture's concession list includes free admission for people studying or working in specific fields. These are the categories most often missed:
- Students enrolled in architecture, archaeology, art-history, cultural-heritage, education and fine-arts courses, with current enrolment documentation
- People carrying out study, research or documentation activity, where access is authorised by the site director
- Teaching staff and accompanying teachers on school visits, within the terms of the concession list
- Visitors with a disability, together with a family member or an accompanying person belonging to health or social-assistance services
These exemptions are not age-capped, so a 30-year-old archaeology or architecture student can qualify where an ordinary 30-year-old visitor cannot. Bring original enrolment documentation naming the course — a generic student card is usually not enough.
Senior ticket rules
There is no senior reduction. The Ministry's concession list has no over-65 category for state museums and monuments, so seniors pay the same €7 as any other adult visitor.
- EU senior (65+): €7 full price
- Non-EU senior: €7 full price
- Italian pensioner: €7 full price
A senior can still enter free through a non-age route: a free-admission day, attending Mass as a worshipper, one of the study/professional exemptions, or as a person with a disability with a qualifying companion.
Accepted documentation
- €2 reduced (18–25): passport or national identity card showing age and citizenship
- Free under-18: any passport or national identity document
- Study-course exemption: current enrolment certificate or equivalent university documentation naming the course
- Disability concession: documentation certifying the disability, plus identification for the accompanying person where required
- Mass attendance: no ticket, but access is for participation in the service
Bring originals. Photographs and photocopies are not reliably accepted, and staff may compare the name on a nominal ticket with your identification.
If you don't qualify
- Free-admission days: free entry, but the longest queues of the month — check the current official calendar
- Attend Mass: free access for worshippers; tourist visits are not permitted during services
- Bundle a guided walk: a paid tour includes admission plus context, which can be better value than the €5 saved by a concession
Compared to other Rome monuments
- Pantheon: €2 for 18–25 EU citizens, free under 18, no senior discount
- Colosseum and Roman Forum: same national concession framework — €2 for 18–25 EU citizens, free under 18
- Borghese Gallery: also a state site on the same concession list
- Vatican Museums: outside the Italian state system, with its own reduced student and child rates
Italian state sites share one national concession list: the ordinary youth reduction is age- and citizenship-based (with reciprocity for some non-EU citizens), and the statutory academic and professional exemptions apply across them. The Vatican Museums are the outlier because they are not part of that system.
