Trocadéro is the square and elevated terrace on the Right Bank opposite the Eiffel Tower. The curved wings of the Palais de Chaillot frame the view, while terraces lead down through the Jardins du Trocadéro toward the Seine. You can visit for a quick photograph or stay longer to compare perspectives from the terrace, stairways and fountain basin.
Where are the best views?
The esplanade between the palace wings gives the familiar, unobstructed view straight toward the tower. It is the simplest place to start if you want the entire structure in the frame. Move to either side of the terrace for a different angle or include the fountains by descending into the gardens. The view from lower down includes more foreground, while the upper terrace gives a wider skyline.
Morning light and smaller crowds can make photographs easier, though weather, events and temporary barriers can alter the scene. After dark, the illuminated tower is another reason to return; check current lighting information rather than planning around an assumed schedule. Mind your belongings in crowded areas and respect any temporary closures or event fencing.
Do you need tickets for Trocadéro?
No. The outdoor viewpoint and public gardens do not need tickets. A ticket offered for a museum inside the palace, a guided activity or an Eiffel Tower ascent is a different product. If you simply want to see the tower from Trocadéro, there is nothing to book.

Planning your visit
Trocadéro metro station is close to the square. If coming from the Eiffel Tower, cross the Seine at Pont d’Iéna and climb through the gardens toward the esplanade; the rise is noticeable. The gardens have steps and sloping paths, so check local accessibility information if you need a step-free approach. The fountain area can be busier in good weather and may be affected by maintenance or events.
If time is short, go straight to the esplanade for the full tower view. If you have longer, look down from the terrace and then explore the gardens at your own pace. There is no need to make this a timed stop: it works just as well before or after a booked Eiffel Tower visit.
What is the Palais de Chaillot?
The two curved buildings behind the terrace form the Palais de Chaillot, built for the 1937 International Exposition. They frame the classic view across the Seine. The palace houses cultural institutions, including architecture and maritime collections; these are separate from the free outdoor viewpoint and may have their own tickets and hours. If you only came for the Eiffel Tower photograph, you can enjoy the exterior without entering a museum.
