Colosseum tickets: quick answer

Colosseum tickets should be booked in advance — from March through October the official 30-day window sells out within hours. Official timed-entry tickets are sold only through the Parco archeologico del Colosseo ticketing system, with sales opening exactly 30 days before your visit date. Different tickets unlock different areas — the standard Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine route (€18), the Arena floor or Underground hypogeum via Full Experience (€24, 48h validity, includes SUPER Forum interiors), or upper-level Attic access. If the official site is sold out, authorised resellers (Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Viator, Klook) and licensed guided tours carry additional inventory at a higher price. Under-18s enter free with ID; EU citizens aged 18–25 pay a reduced €2.

What's new for Colosseum tickets in 2026

New on-site ticket office (from 4 May 2026). Visitors buying the standard 24-hour Colosseum–Forum–Palatine ticket in person should now use the ticket office at Piazza del Colosseo, not the older Forum-side desks. Advance online booking still remains the fastest route in.
Stricter name-change rules (visits from 9 May 2026). Ticket-holder name changes are now limited to specific documented circumstances (illness, family emergency, misspellings) and must be requested before a published cut-off. Buy under the correct traveller's name from the start — resale and free transfers between friends are no longer honoured at the gate.
Full Experience Underground & Arena (€24). The premium ticket remains valid for two consecutive days and continues to bundle the Underground, Arena floor, Forum, Palatine and multiple SUPER sites — still the best-value serious-visit ticket in 2026.
Free first-Sunday route. Free entry is still offered on the first Sunday of the month, but Underground, Arena and Attic remain closed on those days, and same-day tickets are distributed at the on-site office in order of arrival — not bookable online.

How to book on the official site

Open ticketing.colosseo.it — the only official site. Anything else is a reseller.
Official sales open 30 days before the visit date. The Park does not publish a guaranteed daily release hour, so availability can appear without a fixed announced time — check repeatedly on release day.
Pick "Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill" (Standard) or "Full Experience Arena / Underground".
Choose a timed 30-minute entry slot. Officially, entry at a different time from the one booked is not possible — plan to arrive before your slot begins.
Add each visitor by name — the ticket is name-locked and ID is checked at the gate.
Pay by card. You'll receive a PDF; screenshots work at the scanner.
Arrive at the correct entrance (Colosseum vs Forum) and go to the pre-booked queue, not the general one.

True combos vs. the standard bundled ticket

A common confusion: every Colosseum ticket already includes Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. That's not a "combo product" — it's how the archaeological park sells its own inventory.

A true combo pairs the Colosseum with a site outside the park — Vatican Museums, Borghese Gallery, Domus Aurea, or a hop-on-hop-off bus. These are always reseller bundles and cost the sum of both tickets plus a service fee. If you see "Combo: Colosseum + Forum + Palatine" advertised as a premium product, you're paying extra for something already included.

The questions people actually ask

Do I really need to book weeks in advance?

For March–October, yes — the official 30-day window sells out within hours, especially for Full Experience. Off-season (Nov, Jan, Feb) you can often still find slots a few days out.

Is the Full Experience worth €6 more than Standard?

If you value the arena floor or the SUPER Forum interiors (Santa Maria Antiqua frescoes, House of Augustus), yes. Purely for the Colosseum view from the galleries, Standard is fine.

Are reseller tickets legit?

Authorised platforms (Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Klook, Viator) are legit — they buy real inventory and add a service fee. Avoid random ads on social media and Google shopping listings you don't recognise.

Can I still get in on a free Sunday?

Yes, but the standard free-Sunday route is not bookable online. Free same-day tickets are handed out at the official ticket office in order of arrival. Expect a queue and note that Underground, Arena and upper levels are generally closed on free days.

My ticket says 'Colosseo + Foro Romano + Palatino' — is that a combo?

That's the standard combined ticket everyone gets. It's not a separate 'combo' product — the three sites share one ticket by design.

Missed my entry slot — am I toast?
