Do You Need to Print Your Pantheon Ticket?

In most cases a ticket displayed on your phone is enough, but the safe answer is narrower than the usual blanket "no printing needed": follow the presentation instructions printed on the ticket itself, because those conditions are set by the issuer.

One point matters more than the format. Official Pantheon tickets are nominal: visitors are asked to show the original ticket together with identification, details may be compared, and a ticket in someone else's name can be refused without a refund. Below is how to prepare so nothing goes wrong at the door.

Short answer

Official digital tickets are generally designed for presentation on a phone; follow the exact instructions accompanying your issued ticket. The rule to follow is the one written on your ticket or in the confirmation email: if it specifies a printed voucher or a particular app, do that. If it doesn't, download the original PDF or the official app ticket for offline access and bring matching identification.

Book Pantheon Tickets, Tours & Hotels

Avoid buying your ticket on site by booking ahead — compare the official Musei Italiani ticket and the three best-known third-party providers, plus hotels next to Piazza della Rotonda.

Official Pantheon Tickets — Musei Italiani

Sold by Italy's Ministry of Culture. €7 admission from July 2026. Any online transaction fee is shown at checkout.

Musei Italiani is the official Pantheon ticket seller. Third-party products may be tours, hosted-entry products or bundled services — check the exact inclusions before booking.

Nominal tickets and ID

Official Pantheon admission tickets are issued in a named visitor's name. The official rules state that the original ticket must be shown together with identification, that details may be compared, and that a non-matching ticket can be refused with no refund due.

So passing your ticket to a friend is not a workaround. If the named person can no longer come, use the official name-change route instead — see changing, cancelling or refunding Pantheon tickets.

Make it work offline

Mobile data in a busy central piazza can be slow, and there is no guarantee you'll be able to load a ticket from an email link while standing in the queue. As a precaution:

  • Download the original PDF to your phone's files, not just the email
  • Open the ticket in the official app before you leave your accommodation, so it is cached
  • Add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet if the issuer supports it
  • Keep a screenshot as a secondary backup

When a printout helps

  • Your ticket or confirmation states that a printed voucher is required
  • You're travelling with someone who prefers paper
  • Your screen is cracked or very dim
  • You're managing a group and want each person to hold their own document

Many Rome hotels may print it for you at reception if you email the PDF the night before — ask rather than assume.

If your phone dies

There is no published guarantee that staff can retrieve your booking from a reference number, so treat this as a problem to prevent rather than solve. Prevention options:

  • Carry a power bank, or charge before you leave
  • Send a copy of the ticket to a travelling companion's phone
  • Print a paper backup for a long day out

If it happens anyway, ask staff on site what they can do, and keep your booking reference and identification to hand. Buying a second ticket does not normally create refund eligibility on the first, since a flat battery is not usually a covered cancellation reason.

Group bookings

Whether a booking arrives as one code covering everyone or as one document per visitor depends on the seller and the specific product. Official tickets are issued per named visitor. Check your confirmation, and if in doubt keep every document accessible offline so you can present them one after another.

Checklist

  • Read the presentation instructions on the ticket itself
  • Save the original PDF or official app ticket offline
  • Carry identification matching the name on the ticket
  • Bring documentation for any reduced or free category
  • Turn screen brightness up before you reach the entrance
  • Arrive before the time stated on the ticket — entry is in order of arrival

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a printed Pantheon ticket?

Usually not — a ticket shown on your phone is normally accepted — but follow the presentation instructions on your own ticket, since conditions are set by the issuer. If the ticket says it must be printed, print it.

Will they accept a screenshot?

A screenshot of the code often works and is a useful offline backup, but it is not universally guaranteed. Where possible, keep the original PDF or the ticket in the official app as well.

Can someone else use my ticket?

No. Official Pantheon tickets are nominal. Visitors must show the original ticket plus identification, and if the name does not match, entry can be refused without a refund. Use the official one-name-change option instead.

Will they check my ID?

They may. Because tickets are nominal, ticket details can be compared with identification, so carry ID that matches the name on the booking — not only when you hold a reduced or free ticket.

Does the ticket expire?

It is valid for the visit time you selected. Visits are handled in order of arrival, and late arrival is at the site's discretion, so plan to be there before your stated time.
