Concessions and companions

Italy's state-museum concession system is set by the Ministry of Culture, not by individual monuments. For visitors with disabilities the concession covers:

  • The visitor with a disability.
  • A family member, or an accompanying person who can demonstrate belonging to health or social-assistance services.

That is narrower than the "plus one companion, no questions asked" version repeated on many travel sites. Bring documentation supporting both the disability and, where relevant, the accompanying person's role. Floor surfaces inside

The ancient floor is marble and gently convex, sloping away from the centre toward the drains — a mild but noticeable gradient for manual wheelchair users, and slippery when rain comes through the oculus. The gradient is mild, but it is not a flat floor, and the polished ancient marble becomes slippery in wet weather. Getting there

Largo di Torre Argentina is normally the most useful surface-transport hub for the Pantheon, but the lines serving it, the stop positions and the vehicles operated all change during works, events and seasonal timetables. Rome's tram network in particular has been subject to major works and replacement services, so do not rely on an evergreen route list — including ours.

  • Bus: check ATAC's live planner on the day for lines currently serving Largo di Torre Argentina and the exact stop for your direction. Most of the fleet is low-floor, but this cannot be guaranteed for every vehicle on every run.
  • Tram: verify whether the tram is running or replaced by buses before you plan an accessible journey; replacement services may have different boarding arrangements.
  • Metro: no station is close to the Pantheon, and lift availability at individual stations changes with maintenance. Check the live station-accessibility status on ATAC before choosing a station.
  • Accessible taxi: Rome's radio-taxi cooperatives can dispatch adapted vehicles, but you must request wheelchair access when booking and allow extra time.
