This is a short, food-focused self-guided walking tour of the Pantheon area — six stops, under 1 km of walking, about 2 hours end-to-end. It's designed to give you Rome's best espresso, the benchmark carbonara, one great free sight and a proper gelato without booking anything except the pasta stop.
It works either as a morning route (start 10:30, end with lunch around 12:30) or an afternoon–evening route (start 17:00, end with gelato at 19:00). All six stops are within a 6-minute walk of the Pantheon.

Stop 1 — Tazza d'Oro (10 min, €1.10)
Start on Via degli Orfani, 84 — 30 seconds from the Pantheon's north side. Tazza d'Oro has roasted coffee since 1946 and their Regina dei Sabá blend is arguably the best espresso in the centro. Order at the cashier first (say "un caffè, per favore"), take the receipt to the barista, drink standing at the marble bar. €1.10. Under 5 minutes.
In summer, order the granita di caffè con panna (€4) instead — coffee slush layered with whipped cream, top and bottom.
Stop 2 — The Pantheon (30–40 min, €7)
Walk 60 seconds south into Piazza della Rotonda. Book your €7 ticket in advance (see the booking block below) or buy at the door — walk-up almost always works outside July–August peak. Inside, do a clockwise loop: portico, doors, dome + oculus, Raphael's tomb, the two royal tombs, marble floor with the 22 ancient drains.

Exit the Pantheon, cross Piazza della Rotonda and take Via degli Orfani south for two minutes to Piazza di Sant'Eustachio. Sant'Eustachio and Tazza d'Oro are Rome's two coffee benchmarks — trying both back-to-back is the fastest way to pick your camp. Sant'Eustachio is sweeter and creamier by default (say "amaro" if you don't want sugar).
Same drill: pay first at the cashier, take the receipt to the bar. €1.20 at the counter, do not sit at the tables (€4.50 seated, they charge for the view of the church).
Stop 4 — Armando al Pantheon (45–60 min, €55–70)
Two minutes back toward the Pantheon, on the tiny Salita de' Crescenzi that runs up its west side. Family-run since 1961, only 30 covers, third generation cooking. Order the cacio e pepe (their benchmark dish), a coda alla vaccinara (oxtail slow-braised in celery and cocoa), a half-litre of house red, and finish with a Roman ricotta tart.
Reservation is essential — book 1–2 weeks ahead on the official site. If you didn't book, walk 3 minutes to Osteria Da Fortunata instead (Via del Pellegrino, no reservations, fresh pasta rolled in the window, €30–40 pp). Both are on our restaurants shortlist.
Stop 5 — Piazza della Minerva (10 min, free)
Walk 90 seconds south-east around the back of the Pantheon into Piazza della Minerva. Bernini's small marble elephant (1667) balancing an Egyptian obelisk sits in the middle — locally nicknamed il pulcin della Minerva. Behind it is Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Rome's only Gothic church, with a Michelangelo Christ the Redeemer, the tomb of Saint Catherine of Siena, and the tomb of Fra Angelico. Free entry.
Stop 6 — Giolitti (10 min, €4)
Walk five minutes north from the Pantheon (Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 40) to Giolitti, Rome's historic gelateria since 1900. Order a coppetta media (medium cup, €5) — you get three flavours. Go with pistachio + zabaione + riso (rice pudding gelato — a Roman specialty). Say "sì" when they ask about panna (whipped cream) — it's free.
Same trick as the coffee bars: pay at the cashier first, then hand the receipt to the scooper.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is this Pantheon food walking tour?
About 2 hours end-to-end, including a 45-minute sit-down lunch. Total walking is under 1 km — every stop is within 6 minutes of the Pantheon.
How much does the Pantheon food walking tour cost?
Roughly €65–80 per person in 2026: €1.10 espresso × 2, €7 Pantheon ticket, €55–70 lunch at Armando al Pantheon (or €30–40 at Osteria Da Fortunata if you prefer walk-in), €4 gelato. Skip lunch and it's a €12 walk.
Do I need to book anything for this tour?
Only Armando al Pantheon (1–2 weeks ahead for lunch, 2–3 weeks for dinner). Everything else is walk-in. If you can't get Armando, swap in Osteria Da Fortunata — no reservations, same 3-minute walk.
What's the best time to start this walk?
Morning route: 10:30 (Pantheon has thinned out after the 9am rush, kitchens open at 12:30 for lunch). Evening route: 17:00 (Pantheon last entry 18:15, restaurants seat from 19:00, gelato open until midnight).
Is this walk kid-friendly?
Yes — flat, short distances, three food stops, and Bernini's marble elephant in Piazza della Minerva is a reliable kid-winner. Only caveat: Armando al Pantheon is a tight room with no high chairs; swap in Osteria Da Fortunata for families.
Can I do the walk without visiting the Pantheon interior?
Yes — it still works. The tour makes a full loop around Piazza della Rotonda so you see the facade regardless. Skipping the interior saves €7 and 30 minutes.
