The Pantheon in Rome viewed from Piazza della Rotonda

The Pantheon sits near the centre of Rome's historic core. Within a 10-minute walk you can reach Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, three Caravaggio paintings, Bernini's tiny elephant obelisk, the site where Julius Caesar was assassinated, and two of Rome's best-known historic coffee bars.

Here's an interactive map with every worthwhile stop, plus estimated walking times and a suggested half-day route.

  • Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè (2 min). A historic espresso bar, famously sweetened by default — ask for it amaro if you want it unsweetened.
  • Sant'Ignazio di Loyola (3 min east). Baroque church with a jaw-dropping trompe-l'œil ceiling. Free entry.
  • Piazza di Pietra (3 min north-east). Eleven Corinthian columns of the Temple of Hadrian, embedded in a Baroque facade.

  • San Luigi dei Francesi (3 min west). Three Caravaggio masterpieces on the life of St Matthew — free entry.

Within 10 minutes' walk

  • Trevi Fountain (about 10 min east). Viewing from the surrounding square is free; since 2026 the city charges €2 for controlled access to the inner perimeter closest to the basin.
  • Largo di Torre Argentina (5 min south). Four Republican-era temples beside the remains of the Curia of Pompey, where Julius Caesar was killed. The archaeological area has a paid walkway; a cat sanctuary operates at the site.
  • Palazzo Doria Pamphilj (5 min east). A private palace-museum stuffed with Caravaggio, Velázquez and Raphael.
  • Campo de' Fiori (8 min south-west). Morning market, evening bar scene, and the statue of Giordano Bruno at the centre.

Within 15 minutes' walk

Pantheon address & getting there

  • Address: Piazza della Rotonda, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
  • Coordinates: 41.8986° N, 12.4769° E

Suggested half-day loop

The classic Pantheon-area loop takes about 4 hours and hits Rome's best-preserved building plus the two most famous piazzas:

  1. Pantheon — a 09:00 slot usually avoids the busiest middle part of the day.
  2. Coffee at Sant'Eustachio — 2-min walk.
  3. Santa Maria sopra Minerva + Bernini's elephant.
  4. San Luigi dei Francesi for the Caravaggios.
  5. Piazza Navona — Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers.
  6. Lunch near Campo de' Fiori.
  7. Trevi Fountain — about 15 minutes' walk back east from Campo de' Fiori.
