The official schedule published by the Direzione Musei nazionali della città di Roma is 09:00–19:00 Monday to Sunday. The ticket office closes at 18:00, last admission for individual visitors is 18:30, and last admission for groups and school parties is 18:00.

Hours can change for religious activities, and the administration announces dated special openings — for August 2026 there is an evening programme running to 23:00 on most days. Ticket office and last admission

The two cut-offs are different and it matters. If you intend to buy on site, the ticket office window closes at 18:00 — an hour before the building does. If you already hold a ticket, individual last admission is 18:30.

Visits are handled in order of arrival and the administration publishes no skip-the-line option, so allow time for the entry flow rather than assuming you can arrive at the last minute. We do not publish predicted queue lengths: waiting time varies with season, weather, cruise-ship days and events, and no reliable published figures exist.

Religious services

The Pantheon is the Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres, an active place of worship. The official page states that hours can vary for religious activities and that tourist admission is restricted around Mass.

  • Sunday and public holidays: 10:30

These are the only regularly scheduled Masses. Extra services on feast days are announced by the basilica and are not fixed year to year — always re-check the official liturgical schedule shortly before you visit. Anyone genuinely attending the service may enter for worship free of charge; the building closes to ticketed tourist visits during Mass. August 2026 evening openings

For August 2026 the administration announced extended evening opening until 23:00 on most days (Thursdays excluded), with last admission at 22:30. Tickets for the evening slots are sold through the official Musei Italiani portal and, subject to availability, on site.

Closure dates and holidays

The official page lists 25 December and 1 January as closure dates, unless a special opening is announced — and 1 January 2026 did in fact receive one. 1 May is not listed as a standard closure on the current page.

Beyond that, holiday hours are announced date by date. Public holidays such as 15 August, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve and Italian national days may run ordinary hours, modified hours or a special programme, and the arrangement in one year does not carry over to the next. Free first Sunday
