Pantheon + Trevi Fountain in One Day: The Focused Route

How far apart are they?

They are under one kilometre apart, on a flat and almost entirely pedestrian route. Allow 8–12 min: congestion around the squares and narrow streets makes app estimates optimistic. Which to visit first?

Visit the Pantheon first. It is a ticketed interior with fixed hours (normally 09:00–19:00, with last admission at 18:30) and capacity control, and it closes to tourist visits during Mass. The Trevi Fountain square is visible around the clock, so it fits far more flexibly into the day — though light and crowd levels vary enormously, and the close-up perimeter has its own hours.

The 3–5 hour route

1. Coffee (15 min) — Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè or Tazza d'Oro, both a minute or two from the portico.
2. Pantheon (30–45 min) — book a timed slot or buy at the door. Read our interior guide first so you know what to look for.
3. Santa Maria sopra Minerva and Bernini's elephant (15 min) — directly behind the Pantheon.
4. Sant'Ignazio di Loyola (15 min) — Andrea Pozzo's painted ceiling; stand on the marble disc in the nave.
5. Piazza di Pietra (10 min) — the surviving columns of Hadrian's temple, embedded in a later façade.
6. Trevi Fountain (20–30 min) — photographs from the square; add time if you plan to enter the controlled perimeter.
7. Spanish Steps (30–40 min including the walk) — about 12–15 minutes north via Via del Tritone or Via delle Carrozze.

Total: roughly three hours brisk, five with a proper sit-down lunch. Every leg is under fifteen minutes on foot and the route never doubles back.

Tickets and access in 2026

• Pantheon: €7 for adults. Free for all visitors under 18, regardless of nationality — bring proof of age When booking online, any additional fee is displayed at checkout. There is no separate skip-the-line product sold by the administration.
• Pantheon hours: Normally 09:00–19:00, with last admission at 18:30. Hours are reduced on some holidays and the building closes to tourist visits during Mass and other liturgical celebrations.
• Trevi Fountain square: Viewing the fountain from the surrounding square remains free and open air.
• Trevi close-up perimeter: Access to the controlled close-up perimeter in front of the basin costs €2 for most non-resident visitors and operates on scheduled hours with capacity limits.
• Vicus Caprarius (the archaeological site near the fountain): a self-guided visit takes around 20 minutes; reservations are recommended and required at weekends, so treat it as a planned stop rather than a spontaneous one.

There is no official Pantheon "skip-the-line" product. A timed ticket saves you the ticket-desk queue, but everyone still passes the same security and capacity checks at the portico.

Optional extensions

If you have more time, add Piazza Navona — a seven-minute walk west of the Pantheon, best done before the walk east to Trevi so you are not crossing the centre twice. San Luigi dei Francesi, with its Caravaggios, sits on the way. If you only have two hours

Pantheon (40 min) → coffee at Tazza d'Oro (10 min) → Sant'Ignazio (10 min) → Trevi Fountain (20 min). Allow about two hours in quiet conditions, or longer if Pantheon security and the streets are busy — both icons, no backtracking.
