Venues that genuinely face the fountain

Only a very small number of hospitality spaces overlook the Trevi basin itself. These are the two we can point to with published, checkable descriptions.

• Hotel Fontana di Trevi — panoramic lounge (Piazza di Trevi 96). Directly opposite the monument, and the most head-on view of any hospitality space here. Important correction to most guides: it is an indoor, air-conditioned panoramic lounge behind glass windows, not an open rooftop terrace. The hotel publishes a €25 offer for external visitors that includes breakfast or a welcome cocktail, with a 45-minute limit unless you order more. Individuals present themselves at reception; reservations are accepted only for groups of six or more, and no specific window table is guaranteed.
• Relais Fontana di Trevi — lounge terrace (Via di San Vincenzo). Frequently omitted from "definitive" rooftop lists, despite operating a terrace that its own site describes as overlooking the fountain. Small property, so availability is limited; contact them directly rather than relying on aggregator listings.

Anything else marketed as a "Trevi rooftop" should be treated as a nearby rooftop, not a fountain view, unless the venue itself claims otherwise in writing.

Nearby rooftops without a Trevi view

These are good rooftops within roughly a 10–15 minute walk. None of them should be sold to you as a Trevi view.

• Singer Palace — rooftop. Central-Rome rooftop a few minutes from the fountain. It is known for a wide view over the historic centre; we do not claim a clear view of the fountain itself or of St Peter's dome, because the venue does not promise either.
• Hotel de la Ville — Cielo Terrace. Above the top of the Spanish Steps, offering a broad open panorama over this part of the city.
• The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel — Divinity Terrace. Small terrace with a close view towards the Pantheon area.
• Minerva Roof Garden. Long-established roof garden behind the Pantheon.
• Eitch Borromini — Terrazza Borromini. Elevated views over Piazza Navona and the surrounding rooftops.
• Hotel Raphael — Bramante Terrace. Vine-covered terrace near Piazza Navona. We have removed the widely repeated "Hemingway's old hangout" line: we can find no reliable support for it.

Restaurants versus drinks-only lounges

This distinction matters more than the view. Imàgo at the Hassler is principally a fine-dining restaurant with a panoramic setting — not a walk-in cocktail bar, and it should not be planned as one. Hotel Fontana's lounge is a timed, ticketed panoramic space rather than a bar you linger in. Open terraces such as Cielo, Divinity, Minerva Roof Garden and Terrazza Borromini operate as bars in the evening, but several also run a restaurant service that occupies the best tables at dinner.

We deliberately do not publish cocktail and wine price ranges here. We have no dated menus for these venues, and quoting invented ranges is exactly the problem with most rooftop round-ups.

How to check access before you go

• Open the venue's own page or call the hotel. Aggregator listings for rooftops are frequently out of date on hours, closures and non-guest access.
• Ask two specific questions: is the space open to non-guests today, and is there a minimum spend, entry charge or time limit?
• Do not assume a dress code from a blog. Some hotel restaurants apply one; most terraces are relaxed. If it matters to you, ask.
• Check the weather policy. Open terraces close at short notice in rain or wind, and some reduce hours in winter while indoor panoramic spaces stay open.
• Arrive before sunset if the view is the point — the good positions fill first, and in most of these venues seating is not assigned in advance.
